Courtyard Garden at Merrion Hotel • Dublin, Ireland
November 2017
I am a lover of color, bright, bold, exsplosive color palettes are pure delight. I've spent hours gazing at the wonder of Henri Matisse's The Thousand and One Nights (Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh). A harmonius union of colors and shapes, arranged in a playful landscape, and wonderfully layered with the beauty of a story. Woowee I love it.
Another color palette has stilled my eclectic bohemian heart. The palette is not explosive but well mannered and composed and yes monochromatic. The courtyard garden at The Merrion Hotel, Dublin, Ireland.
As The Thousand and One Nights palette cries out loudly this garden echos the same call with its sumptuous monochromatic colors, forms and textures. Sculpted (some not) boxwood hedges create a story line and hold in expressive, free flowing groupings of artfully placed trees (some pleached, some not), shrubs, vines and perennials. Layer upon layer this garden is a harmonious cacophony of voices that work. This garden has a story to tell and woowee I love it.
